The first engineering students were recruited through the Common Core of the Science and Technology sector set up in 1968 in Porto-Novo as part of the activities of the Joint University Togo-Benin.
Starting from 1970, this higher education in agriculture was organized within the Department of Agronomic and Agro-technical Studies (DEAA) which was transformed into the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FSA) on 22 December 1977 by Ministerial Decree No. 353/METS/DGM.
FSA’s evolution can be divided into four key periods:
Establishment and initial growth.
Organizational expansion, program development, and strengthened international cooperation (Nigeria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, IITA, Ford Foundation, etc.).
Consolidation of structures, programs, and research mechanisms (infrastructure, teaching equipment, graduate & professional training, R&D support).
Implementation of the Licence‑Master‑Doctorat (LMD) system and comprehensive administrative and academic restructuring.
